Is the glass half full or half empty?

"Cause pain is better than nothing at all"
-Three Days Grace

Once upon a time i knew a young girl. She was young and happy, and nothing could take that from her. Some bad things would come but nothing could crush her spirit. Then she met a boy, and for a while she was still that same happy person, but then the boy broke her heart, and nothing was the same. She looked at life suspciously and distrusted the things that came her way. Afraid to be broken again she closed her eyes so as not be blinded by the light, but she missed the sunrise and when she was old and tired she realized that it had been a life wasted if you don't look at the sunrise. Sometimes its to bright and sometimes it hurts but then again hurt is better than nothing at all.

The Calm before the storm

he stood there in the music room

but he wasn't there for music

he was nervous, but the smell of flowers gave him comfort

he was early but being prepared made him aware

he was prepared for the worst but hoping for the best

the moment came and the hope was found

then there was something missing

but it wasn't something good that was missing

it wasn't some joy that he had lost rather

it was worry, it was stress

they had all just vanished

Broken

What constitutes broken? When an object no longer functions correctly, and i guess in that sense we were never right i mean ever since we are a fallen species, but maybe since we are in Christ maybe we are sometimes functing correctly but like a computer or tv sometimes just need to be smacked to work right. But then what about the computers that don't respond to that whack or goad, where are they? Just more worse off than when they started.

Wake up and see that the world is fallen and let yourself be broken for humanity and understand that most of the people you see are damned to hell. Maybe then and only then you will know why you are here.

Tragedy?

When asked who i thought was the most popular literary author in the history of mankind was (excluding the Bible) i though about it for a while, and responded Shakespear. Now i think about the amazing works that Shakespear put forth and 3 came to mind. Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Macbeth. Now all three of these works are tragedy's. Stories in which nearly every one of the major charecters die, whether by violence, suicide, old age, murder, or accident almost all of them die. This revealation seems to me to be rather telling about the human condition. That our favorite "reflections of reality" are stories where death, sadness, and suffering are the main ideas behind the stories. Then i thought more about these "tragedy's", and i have come to the conclusion that they are not tragedy's. Rather they are an accurate reflection of reality, in that the greater evil is always defeated, but in the process of A. indentifying the evil, and B. defeating it that some people will be lost. In each one of Shakespear's "tragedy's" a greater evil is defeated. For example, Romeo and Juliet, in the story even though the list of dead is long the underlying problem of the Capulet's and Montegue's feud is ended because of the "tragedy". Hamlet, the issue of succession of the throne is dealt with and the usurper is killed. Macbeth is differant because of the point of view of the story. However the usurper is killed and justice is served. So my question is this. Are ideals and morals more important than the people that die to uphold them? Because if they are then these stories are tragedies but if they are not then these stories are stories of reality, because i promise that good never comes free and to defeat evil a price must be paid.

How long is Forever?

"and we will spend eternity with him"

-Anonymous

That's what i tell myself everyday, and then i wonder how long is forever. It is a place with n0 beginning or end. It has no parameters, it has no standards or meaning to me. It makes no sense to my finite self, but above all i hope that one day or lack there of that i will find eternity, and that it will beyond what i can ever imagine. Because i have found that Christianity is the only religion where paradise is 1. Assured, and 2. Good. For example if i am a postmodern life is the end of life, and then it is into oblivion, same with secular humanist, and marxist. Cosmic Humanist paradise is pretty much spiritual suicide. Islam is so uncertain that i can never know whether or not i can achieve heaven. In that sense Catholicism also falls under the same category. But i can tell you this that Christianity is my only escape from several things in this world. Pain, because it is so temporary. I mean it hurts but it goes away right? Depression which i believe to be much more deadly than pain. Because, that is not so much pain, but a belief in that which appears to inevitable. I guess actually that the purpose for my writing this blog is that my mother father and brother all suffer from mild to serious cases of depression. I however seem to have escaped this "epidemic" and now view the rest of the world with a slightly cynical view and i think that that is where i get my detachment from reality. I don't really know. Maybe i am just a teenager, but i don't think so. I mean the only things that really make me nervous are not physical for example, i jump 20 feet off a sandcliff, and i barely get excited. I get in a car wreck and the first thing that i think is not a thought about perserving life rather it is about how this is going to affect my insurance. even public speaking, or performing doesn't bug me much. Many people look at such detachment and think "wow that's cool" but i think they miss the point. I guess that life doesn't mean that much to me. The ups and downs are somehow dulled. However, what this really means is that things that mean a lot to me matter so much that i would do crazy stuff to preserve them. Back to my original point. How long is forever. Forever is this. the moment in time where you close your eyes and forget how long life is. That is forever.

The Puppet

"In order for there to be an end there must be a beginning, but if it doesn't have an end it doesn't need a beginning" -Anonymous
There was once a young girl. The young girl had a favtorite toy, and the toy was a puppet. The puppet loved to please the girl (cause the puppet was a live sentient being). Above all else the puppet lived to please the little girl. The girl would play with it for hours and they amused each other and enjoyed each others company. The little girl began however to get bored with the puppet and told the puppet to go into the box because the little girl was afriad of hurting herself with the puppet. The puppet looked up into her big brown eyes and slowly nodded hoping... Hoping like an angel hopes for heaven that the little girl would change her mind and let him out the box so they could play, just one more time...

Art?

What is art? Is it based on personal opinion? Does it have some standard? I think so. If it doesn't then the word art has no meaning. I mean if art is based on personal opinion and as long as somebody claims that it is art that makes it art to that person then i claim that everything is art, and once again it no longer means anything. Is art any expression of feelings? If so then i hold that Hitler was the greatest artist of all time, because he made the biggest impression of hatred and cruelty and was responsible for the death of millions. Once again i don't think so. I think that art must be several things. It must meet some criteria, some standard. This standard includes
1. An expression of somebody's emotions- it doesn't have to the artists expression of feelings but it must be somebody's.
2. It must be created with the intent of being presented as an expression of feeling. (i.e. it cannot be an item that is created for practical purposes, for example if i make a desk for the expressed purpose of writing an essay and the desk is created with that expressed purpose the driving force behind the desk then it is not art). It also be presented to someone (including God) for example if i create a beautiful sandcastle on an uninhabited island and it will be washed away, if i don't present to anyone then it is not art. However as soon as i present to God then it becomes art.
This post will grow and this list is right now not exhaustive and it will be added to for sure as i think more about it.
